The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes.
- William James
Maybe it is definate, and that we can use our ability of such to do more than we dreamed of. Maybe it is illusion and nothing more, 'destiny' may exist.
As Lyall watson has written in one of his books: Astrology, despite much of it being a load of steaming shit, does have some truth in it. It is because life follows patterns, most notably, that of the sun, but the moon and the planets also have an effect on us too.
If you ask a Neuroscientist, he will tell you there is no such thing, as the brain 'wires' itself up in such a way based on experiences.
Despite experiencing time going forward, we don't realy know if it is going forwards or backwards. It is strange how in one 'direction' we have memories and can vaugley describe what happened, but it is strange how we are so unsure about the other 'direction',
Free will, It may be an illusion, but we appear to have it, perhaps like the way we are not sure about our existence/experience but we seem to have one.
Isn't it strange, how regardless of what goes on, some of us make choices which seem isolated from any recent events. Quantum physics says that we/i/you, the observer, the experience, have a lot more control than we think, which is probably the case.
The theory of quantum immortality/quantum suicide says that you can make pigs fly if you wanted to [anybody reading this who goes of to look up more stuff about quantum immortality/quantum suicide, i reccomend that you DON'T try it, unless you reach 200 years old or somthing.]
Let us say, that there is no definate answer [which is the likely case, but not certain] Would you keep beleiving that everything is written in the stars and that you have virtually no control? That you have no real choices and arn't able to change things, i personaly think that it would be the wrong attitude, and that, rather than playing victim to 'reality' we should go and develop this gift into somthing much more. Putting Dr.phils [and possibly his sons] words into somthing a little more simple: playing victim and not being able to accept that you can change things is a good way to keep that 'L' on your forehead. The other simple way to sum it up is with 4 scenarios:
1) no free will / the persons opinion is right = bad.
2) no free will / the person thinks otherwise = Since on the 'script' the person will actualy be getting out there a lot more, despite it being 'destiny', they will be more happy.
3) Free will / The person thinks otherwise = Even worse, the person has the chances and oppertunities and does not take them, they could realy make changes in their lives but don't think they can.
4) Free will / the persons opinion is right = the person is able to change things and will most likely be more happy.
I'm giving you a choice to decide for yourself, weather you realy are in control.
